Auxiliary Carb Problem

Hi, Petrol is trickling out through the intake passages of my auxiliary carb. When the carbs is swtiched off and the engine is running at idle, the intake passages are both full of petrol and slightly overflowing. I can't work out from the diagram which bit needs fixing. Is it the valve or the needle assembley? The spring (item 10 in the diagram) seems very weak and the 'valve' is just a brass disk, but then I guess the suction from the engine keeps the valve closed when the solenoid is not pulling it open. Here's the diagram: http://sucarb.co.uk/technical-chokes-th ... enrichment Cheers, Mike Posted by Mikee 20/07/2013 12:14:14

Hello, I am probably wrong but it may be worth checking the floats in the carbs themselves. If the fuel level is too high in the main floats it will flow through the auxillary unit. Worth a look. Posted by john douglas 21/07/2013 11:46:14

Hi John - thanks for that suggestion - I'll definitely check the float in the rear (main) carb. I've had floats stick before and I usually get a stream out of the overflow pipe rather than through the auxiliary carb. Cheers, Mike Posted by Mikee 21/07/2013 21:48:11

Also check the float is intact and not half full of petrol. Posted by Peter Martin 22/07/2013 08:00:21

Thanks, Peter and John. I took the float out of the rear carb, bent the arm a little that operates the valve, cleaned everything and put it all back together. Guess what - no overflow! Had a leak at the banjo joint into the float chamber, but luckily I had a couple of spare fibre washers. Sorted. Cheers, Mike Posted by Mikee 27/07/2013 21:34:21
