1955 TC21/100 Mulliner Saloon    Ref:  2241    Date:  1/7/2025

Engine/Chassis No 25646. A well-known vehicle in the club, owned by Vic Round (former Bulletin Editor) since 2009 and solely maintained by Fisher Restoration Ltd.
First registered to John Blackwood of Beaulieu Lodge; delivered painted Glasso Grey with ‘modified rear wing’. Exported to the USA in 1975, it returned to the UK in 1989. The vehicle was then restored and repainted in its present colour scheme.
Since 2010 work has included: replaced wiring loom (mice!), fitting extra cooling fan, fitting an alternator, upgraded lights, new fuel tank, clutch, gearbox oil seals, new radiator, rear springs, new wheels, seat belts fitted, that are anchored to the chassis and a period radio with new internals. Also, has a working clock! Complete engine rebuild in 2013, Oil consumption since then approximately 750 miles per pint
The vehicle has been maintained for reliability, regardless of cost. The internal trim is in good condition and shows the wear you would expect for a 36-year-old restoration. The bodywork is sound and the paintwork polishes up well, although it was the next project the owner was going to undertake before his age dictated otherwise!
A history file, with supporting documents, comes with the vehicle. Although exempt, the vehicle has been regularly MOT tested, the current one expires May 2026.
NB: The seller is registered as a private individual. The vehicle is “Sold As Seen”, on an “As Is Where Is’ basis and without warranty. Photos and descriptions are solely for guidance purposes and it's customary and advisable to carry out a full inspection of the vehicle prior to purchase for your own peace of mind. Offers circa £18,000

ALVIS 4.3 1939 WITH OFFORD-DESIGNED 3-POS. DHC BY CARLTON CARRIAGE CO.    Ref:  2242    Date:  1/8/2025

LAST OF THE LINE!

ALVIS 4.3 1939 WITH OFFORD-DESIGNED 3-POS. DHC BY CARLTON CARRIAGE CO.
REG No: ALV 100, Car No 20166,Chassis:14832, Engine:15317, 4396cc 6-cyl, Speedo:16,673.
The last remaining 4.3 long chassis Offord design with strikingly beautiful Carlton 3-position drophead coachwork, in its original colour of Beverley Blue with matching blue mohair roof and beige West of England wool lining. A gracious, thoroughbred car.

Of 166 4.3 chassis built, some never left the Alvis Coventry factory because production ceased on 14th Nov 1940 when the factory was bombed, and then Alvis tamed to full-scale military production.

Of the 94 cars known to survive today only 21 drophead cars were ever built. 11 were designed and built by Offord, the remaining 76 cars were bodied by Vanden Plas, Charlesworth, Mayfair Carriage Co and others.

Carlton built 2 of the DHC bodies, they more commonly built bespoke bodies for Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The other Carlton Alvis 4.3 was destroyed in 1966. This remaining car has been maintained to a high standard and retains all its original matching numbers. Originally it is reported to have been ordered by Sir Alfred McAlpine and delivered via Rootes of Mayfair on 9th June 1939.

Described by Motor magazine as the supercar of the 1930s it was one of the few cars built before the war that could exceed 100 mph, and in 1966 it unsurprisingly found its way to the USA and into the hands of three collectors, including Manfredo Liggemann in Las Vegas. During that time it won at least three concours events at the Classic Car Club of America, amongst others.

In 1992 it was repatriated by a famous Alvis Collector and extensively restored. Then it went into the hands of 3 English Collectors, finally coming onto the market in 2014, when it was recommissioned for driving by me. Since then it has won Best of Exceptional Cars in the Concours of Elegance at Circuit des Remparts, Angouleme France, has been placed at several AOC concours events and most recently came 2nd in the Owners Section of the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court.

Asking price for a unique piece of motoring history, with three huge full box files... £250,000.

1951 TA21 DHC    Ref:2243    Date: 1/8/2025

Believed to one of only about 80 left in the UK. First registered on 8th October 1951 Chassis number 24332, it starts on the button and drives well. A regular attender at the Classic car shows at Amberley museum and many other Sussex shows. Maintained and nurtured by the present owners and garaged inside, but a new owner is now needed to take over for the next twenty years. Minor cosmetic body blemishes hence a realistic price will secure this lovely car. We've had it since 1998 after it was restored by the Bowler family in 1989.

Under the skin the TA21 benefited from new hydraulic brakes and independent coil-sprung front suspension. Tickford, the famous coach builder later part of Aston Martin, coach built the TA21 into a beautiful cabriolet with a 3 position coupe deville hood (the convertible hood can be open, closed or a mid position with driver's position open-topped and the rear passengers enclosed).

The TA21DHC was one of the early post-war greats. During our ownership much of the mechanical parts have been refurbished and it drives exceedingly well and starts on the button. However, during the twenty five years of ownership, our original restoration of the body has started to look a bit tired and hence the very realistic price of £19,750.

Viewing in central Sussex.

1936 Crested Eagle Saloon    Ref: 2244    Date:  1/8/2025

Sadly I’ve decided to sell my ‘36 Crested Eagle ( Charlesworth).
I bought it on a whim only 8 months ago as I wanted an elegant pre-war Alvis to share with my family. Sadly my wife and kids have struggled to drive it ….“ too complicated!”.
It’s fabulous condition and I really love it, but recognise my experiment has failed….
I bought it for around £25,000 including auction premium and then Mike and the guys at Red Triangle bought it back to life and did whatever it needed to fettle it! £11,000.
It is a wonderful car and I have really enjoyed driving it, but sadly my passion wasn’t matched by my family.
Would anyone like to make me a practical offer?
