TA21 Compression ratio

Is there a definitive answer for the compression ratio of an early TA21 (1951 - with Solex carburettor)?  The TA21 Manual of Instruction states 7:1, Alvis Data sheets as published by Newby & Fletcher list 6:9 and road test data has a mixture of the two. Posted by RichardWallach 09/12/2012 09:15:35

Hello Richard, Do many alternative piston sources exist for the Alvis TA-21 engines that would result in a tighter compression ratio?   I do know, with other makes and in the USA, typically, a substitute piston can be located and with nominal machine work be fitted.  Most times it helps keep the cost of an engine OH down to a bit more tolerable level.  A second note, it is nice to do a bit of our own modern engineering with "squish" to elevate the compression while reducing or controlling the "ping".  I would like to hear from owners of TA-14's and TA-21's who have gone through the motion of piston selection and the resulting performance/tuning issues with new rebuilt engines.
