Good Morning, I have bought an Alvin Ta 14 special todays ago. Now I will check all the technical parts and I´m looking for the oil dipstick. But can´t find the oil dipstick. I have the model  produced 1948 with the 1890cc engine. Sorry for this questions. But how I can check the oil? Just with the oil temperature gauge? Thx for an answer. Hi Gunther,  On the carburretor side of the engine above the starter motor you will see an aluminium plate with measurements in gallons on it. There is a thin metal rod connected to a float in the oil sump which gives a reading of the oil level. Sometimes the float is punctured but you can check this by draining the oil and refilling with the correct amount of 1.5 gallons.  Good Luck,  Andrew Posted by tf1695 06/08/2017 15:45:00

Was going to reply "if it's the same as the pre-war cars it's not a dipstick, but a float......"  Which begs the question, with which model did Alvis change to dipsticks? Posted by johnlayzell 07/08/2017 16:17:10
