starter solenoid

I managed to wreck the starter solenoid on my 1948 14, which was my fault.  Apparently they are as rare as the proverbial 'hen's teeth', and a temporary modern replacement has been installed on the bulkhead.  The usual sources drew a blank, and I wondered whether anyone know of a possible supplier.  Graham Posted by langford 26/09/2012 09:33:45

This is an interesting topic! My Carbodies drophead has now done almost 270,000 miles from new and I struggled on for years trying to keep the original solenoid working. It always seemed to fail at the most inconvenient time, especially when the engine was very hot. I became extremely adept at pushing the plunger in on the end of the motor, usually without burning myself too much. Eventually I gave up and fitted the type used on the TD onward (bulkhead mounted). I haven't had any problems since and wish I'd ignored originality and gone down this route years ago. When you do lots of Continental touring, reliability takes priority.  David.
