CARBURETTOR SCREEN

I decided to make a carburettor screen, an aluminium plate to shield the carb from the exhaust manifold.... It was a pleasant afternoons work too. Modern fuels are highly volatile and evaporate quickly when hot so this might help.... one thing though.... my MG has nylon stand offs below this plate on the inlet tract.....I presume to help insulate the plate..... will I need them too I thought.... does anyone know? The nylon might melt!  Better is phenolic, fibreglass or cork washers. Posted by johnlayzell 06/07/2019 15:43:13

Well done John,  I really wouldn't be concerned with  nylon insulators. Given the ratio of the surface area of the shield to the fastening area in direct contact with the manifold I don't really think that it would make a quantifiable difference.   Richard Melbourne Posted by RichardWallach 06/07/2019 22:59:09

Agree with Richard.  I have two regular steel washers behind the heat shields on both the 12/50 and SP25 simply to create a slight air gap. Posted by johnlayzell 07/07/2019 14:13:23
