Following advice on here earlier I have thrown away the old gauze filter (useful only for trapping camel dung!) and am substituting a modern paper filter, I have used the bottom piece of the old gauze job by cutting it off, facing it the lathe and silver soldering a 1/2" upstand made from a piece of copper pipe on to it to locate the new filter. This is now dropped into its original location and tapped into place and will remain there forever I hope. The new filter has to have the top and bottom plastic flanges reduced in diameter so that it will drop into the filter casing, this is easy enough to do, I rotated it against my grinding wheel slowly which made a great job of it, it is now just the right length to be trapped by the spring loaded lid. The filter in question is a Fram CH 9232 or WIX WL7289 and is from the E320 Mercedes of 2005-2006 Posted by Delagiste 27/01/2018 13:55:11
