Shock absorbers/dampers

A conversation with Wayne Brooks yesterday revealed that at one stage Alvis offered a telescopic or tube shock absorber/damper kit as a replacement for the Luvax or Armstrong lever type dampers. Does anybody have or know of anybody who has this fitted to their Speed model, or have there been other successful installations of modern type absorbers/dampers? To clarify.  Alvis produced  at least one Speed 25 with Coil spring independent coil spring suspension.  The drawings for that suspension exist in the drawing books at Red Triangle: C 1428 CHASSIS FRAME MODIFICATION - COIL SUSPENSION & C 1438 ARRT - PROPOSED COIL SUSPENSION.  In the 1960s a Speed 25 owner in the States told me he purchased a kit from Alvis to convert his car to telescope shock absorbers.  As it happens, I saw that Speed 25 in 2007.  It did NOT have telescope shock absorbers.  So, I do not know if such a kit was offered.  Would like to know more. Does the latest 4.3 from Red Triangle have leaf or coil springs?  If coil - is this the modification Wayne speaks about? If coil but not that modification can it be installed onto a standard speed model.  If leaf why if the coil modification exists?   Chris Posted by chhym 10/11/2015 14:29:18
