fuel gauge not working

My newly-acquired (and first ever) Alvis is a 1935 C&E saloon. The fuel gauge doesn't work and as it is almost impossible to dip the tank I'd like to sort it out. It is the first I have ever encountered that isn't based on a float that changes the resistance of a coil. I don't want to remove the gauge until I understand what I am doing ....! All polite suggestions appreciated. Thank you, Mike Duff Posted by mikeduff 31/10/2017 16:59:03

Mike, I am sending you a pdf of a manual for repairing the Hobson Telegauge. I tried to upload it here, but it would not accept a pdf! The red fluid used is Acetylene Tetrabromide, which is carcinogenic, and very hard to get hold of. I did get some for mine, and got it kind of working, but not calibrated. I'm not sure where I managed to get it from! Good luck, they are a pain to get working, but at least you have a reserve tap on the fuel system! Ian Posted by IanHardaker 27/11/2017 02:36:05
