Gearbox bearings

A friend of mine,in Italy, has a Lagonda which has been fitted with a Speed 20 syncro gearbox originally from a 1934 car. He is proposing to overhaul this box. He has asked me for help in sourcing new bearings. Does anybody have bearing references, old or new, please. Many thanks. Mike Wheadon Posted by Mike Wheadon 15/06/2012 15:41:22

I think most of these bearings are available through the usual bearing suppliers although take care to get an exact match for the track clearances, ie "0-0" or "0" not just a size-for-size match. The exceptions are the flanged rear ball races which were made specially for Alvis for these boxes. They can be reconditioned by specialists. Some people machine out the box casing to take an alternative bearing with a radially located circlip which is readily available but be careful. The flanged rearings were designed to be retained by the box rear housings. Nick Simpson Posted by Nickalvis 18/06/2012 11:22:14
