AGM & barbeque - outside on the farm in Kingsbridge, Devon

After last year’s experiment, the SW Section decided to once again spice up the traditionally boring AGM by having it as an integral part of our annual bash at committee member Peter Robson’s farm. Located just north of Kingsbridge in Devon the farm is set amidst the beautiful rolling South Hams and is surrounded by some quite stunning countryside.

It was a beautiful sunny day and things got officially under way just before 12 noon with our Section AGM which happily was all over by 12-30 thanks largely to the fact that all key posts were all filled rather swiftly by largely re-electing to existing positions for a further year.

It was then Barbeque time where Ian, a local butcher and keen Rover P4 car club member worked wonders with an open barbeque created out of a huge metal barrel. Spicy pork steaks, very tasty sausages and plenty of fried onions were served, some members chose to return for second helpings. The ladies provided the salads, bread rolls and three extremely tasty gateau options.

With appetites duly satisfied a number of the more physically active members then enjoyed a walking nature trail through the wooded and more challenging areas adjacent to the farm. Peter who led the trail was able to point out the many and various wild flowers that he has been able encourage on areas of his land that are quite unsuitable for conventional farming, the topography being so varied and in many cases quite spectacular. It was then back to the farmyard for a final cup of tea and in some cases a second piece of gateau before a bit of clearing up and commencement of the departure for home after a most enjoyable day.
