East Anglian Autumn Weekend in North Norfolk 2019

East Anglian Autumn Weekend in North Norfolk.

For the fourth year running this popular Friday to Monday event took place at the Sea Marge Hotel Overstrand and a total of 28 Members had, what has become a very sociable weekend get together for all concerned, over dinners and a convivial bar, aided by the ambiance of the hotel, its clifftop location, and helpful staff. Despite the rather mixed weather we had a variety of 8 Alvis in attendance and all performed well, along with a small number of moderns.

The Saturday was spent with a road trip of some 40 miles to Ranworth Broad to visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre, approached by a boardwalk through carr woodland, that overlooks the Broad. Car parking and Lunch was at The Maltsters Pub a traditional Broads hostelry for a hearty meal and drink. A number of Members visited nearby Ranworth Church known as the 'Cathedral of the Broads', and climbed 89 spiral steps and two ladders to the top of the tower for the spectacular view of 5 Broads and the river system including, alas not on our day, a view of Norwich Cathedral and Cromer Church.

Sunday was a road trip of around 90 miles along the North Norfolk coast to Sandringham House, where the Alvis motors were displayed on 'The Vista' for a photo opportunity for the admiring public. Members were treated to a specially arranged visit to the Museum to see the Duke of Edinburgh's TD21 Series 1 drophead ( 26600 OXR 1) that had been cleaned and polished for our visit, with very informative staff in attendance. While we were aware of a number of differences from the standard car requested by the Duke one small short item attached to the top of the fascia close to the windscreen had us and the staff mystified. Answers on a postcard please !.

Monday, for most Members was a return home while a small group of us visited the Norfolk Whiskey Distillery near Thetford for a tour and lunch before departing home. One comment from an esteemed Member following the tour was that you can't beat Scottish whiskey, enough said !. A great time was had by all and we have been asked for a repeat performance in 2020. All Members are welcome so watch the Pink-un.
