East Anglia Alvis - Ipswich to Felixstowe Run Sunday 4th May
Peter and Jenny Maynard joined Val and I in our TA21s heading for Ipswich to join the gathering at Christchurch Park, Ipswich in preparation for the annual run to Felixstowe. Teas, coffees and bacon baps were enjoyed whilst we inspected the vast gathering of historic commercial vehicles, buses and classic, vintage and veteran cars.
We were staggered by the number of Sinclair C5s in attendance.
Pete Barratt arrived in his TC21/100 saloon conveying the Mayor of Felixstowe who later travelled to Felixstowe on an open top bus. Very brave of him in the freakish weather conditions. We kept our hoods up. Michael Melhuish arrived in his very interesting and rare TA14 saloon.
On the dot of 11.00am the gates opened and we were on our way to Felixstowe but unfortunately separated into two groups of two until we arrived in Felixstowe. Leaving Ipswich earlier than last year meant our run was smoother and less congested until we came across the C5s and the penny farthing. The enthusiastic crowds were out in force lining the streets and byways setting out their picnic and deck chairs on the roadside. We even saw the odd sofa. The Union Flags were being waved profusely and loud cheers were voiced whenever we sounded our horns. Much to the delight of the youngsters who had made placards requesting us to HONK.
Felixstowe promenade was the destination where more hot drinks were consumed before we ventured onto the beach to enjoy our picnic by the shelter of the rocks.
The Alvis were a constant interest to the general public who were very impressed by our gorgeous cars.
