JUNE 2017

Sunday 4th June
NORTHERN: St John the Baptist Church, Vicarage Lane, Knaresborough. Yorkshire. HG5 9AE - A wonderful afternoon, overlooking the River at Knaresborough, with a plentiful bounty of vintage and classic cars to whet your appetite. Arrive from 12 noon onwards.

FAR SOUTH WEST: Peter Goodwin Memorial, Peter Goodwin was a long-standing member of the club who travelled to many events in his selfmade TA21 special. He died two years ago just prior to his 94th birthday. This event commences with a gathering at his favourite pub The Crown Inn, Lanlivery near Lostwithiel PL30 5BT between 12.30 and 1pm. They do good lunches, there is a large car park and it is a cosy pub with a sunny garden. You can book lunch in advance if you wish; the pub has been forewarned of our arrival. SOUTH EAST: Ken and Gay Jenner's Garden Party at Great Sheephurst Farm, Kent. Ken and Gay Jenner have kindly invited the AOC to their garden party, alongside Maidstone Historic Vehicle Society and some local residents. Open at 1.00pm. A Band will play from 2.00pm to 5.00pm, with an interval performance by Morris Dancers. There will be several stalls, including strawberries and cream. There is no charge, but donations to benefit band funds and the Air Ambulance will be gratefully received. A magnificent sum was raised for the Air Ambulance at this event in 2016. There will be plenty of parking and it is necessary to bring chairs.

MIDLAND: MIDLAND LUNCH at The White Heart Uttoxeter ST14 8EU 12-00 on, everyone welcome.


Saturday 3rd June - The Letchworth Garden City Classic & Vintage Car Club (LGCCVCC) is holding their annual Transport Picnic at Halls Green in North Hertfordshire. Attendance by AOC Members in their classic Alvis cars would be most welcome. Organisers expect over 500 vehicles to attend, including veteran, vintage, classic and modern thoroughbred cars along with classic motorbikes and vintage bicycles. Gates open at 11.00am and the event ends at 5.00pm.

Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June - Bicester Heritage – Flywheel Festival.

Sunday 25th June - Ludham Classic Car and Gardens Open Day. (separate) parking for moderns. Gardens open 11am to 5pm. Wherries and Heritage fleet. All day tickets available for £6.50, includes car parking and free river ferries between gardens, plants and crafts for sale, lunches and refreshments available. No dogs please.

Saturday 1st - Sunday 2nd July
SOUTH WEST: SW Alvis Weekend. We once again begin with a Road Run to include areas of beautiful Exmoor and all AOC members are very welcome. An extremely picturesque route has been planned providing some of the finest views of Exmoor, which avoids the holiday traffic along the North Devon coast.
By popular request our South West Alvis Day will be returning to the National Trust Property, Knightshayes Court, one of the finest estates in the South West of England, located in Bolham, Tiverton, Devon EX16 7RQ. The estate is easily accessible from junction 27 of the M5.

NORTHERN: Newby Hall Vintage and Classic car Show. Newby Hall, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 5AE.
Once again, the Northern Section of the Alvis Owner Club are invited by the North of England Classic and Pre War Automobile Club, to Yorkshire’s largest, one day, Vintage and Classic Car Rally.

EAST ANGLIA: East Anglia Section Day this year based at Pakenham Mill Suffolk (Water Mill Farm, Mill Road, Pakenham, Bury Saint Edmunds IP31 2NB).

SOUTH EAST: West Green House – The South East invites you to join us at the 18th-century country house at West Green just off the A30 at Hartley Wintney in Hampshire (Postcode RG27 8JB). Built in the early 18th century, by General Henry Hawley, who led the cavalry charge at the Battle of Culloden. The property is well known for its extensive gardens and open air Opera. Members are invited to bring a picnic and picnic with their cars or use the excellent tea room. Entry is £10 per car, for which the driver gets entry to the gardens. The House belongs to the National Trust (NT), but is rented out to a private individual and therefore the house is not open to the public. Accompanying passengers who are members of the NT will be able to use their membership to gain access; otherwise there is a charge of £8.

Sunday 23rd July
MIDLAND: This year the Cadwell Park VSCC race meeting is on Sunday July 23rd. Cadwell Park race circuit is situated on A153 between Louth & Horncastle, Lincolnshire. LN11 9SE. Parking will be arranged for AOC members (and other Alvis owners) as on previous years within the reserved classic car area, which will be properly signed from the entrance. This year, once again, the long-range weather forecast is brilliant for that area on that day! For those who have not been before, the track is a favourite with the drivers with its high-speed sections and 'The Mountain' - well you are in the Wolds! Viewing for spectators is first class - almost on the track in places! Food and drink is readily available and you can wander round the pits area without special passes, etc.

Sunday 23rd July
WALES: Welsh Section Day at Aberglasney- These beautiful gardens and their restored country house, near Llandeilo (SA32 8QH), keep attracting us back. If you haven’t been yet, do come along; we have our own area in the grounds; we are free to roam through a variety of different gardens …not forgetting the original medieval ‘cloistered Garden’. The café/restaurant nearby provides excellent lunches. Why not make more of a weekend of it though? We are planning a tour, largely in Mid and West Wales on the Saturday, finishing up for an evening meal at the Ivy Bush Hotel in Carmarthen.

MIDLAND: The Music, Beer and Transport Festival, Wootton Community Centre OX13 6DA – The Alvis Owner Club have been invited once again to bring as many Alvis cars as possible. We had 10 cars last year and all who attended really enjoyed the day out. So please make an effort to come on mass. There is lively entertainment for various interests from 12 noon until 11.00pm.

MIDLAND: Midland Alvis Day to be held at Rousham House and Garden roughly 12 miles North of Oxford OX25 4QX. This is an exclusive booking and we have our own courtyard, with house tour available. This will be picnic only in real style on a very special private estate.

Sunday 2nd July - another new ‘Away Day’ at the Classic Motor Hub, Ablington, Bibury, GL7 5NX. Home to a fascinating collection of Vintage and Classic motors owned and run by true enthusiasts. This event requires registration at

Thursday 6th July - Classics on the Green, Friston, Suffolk IP17 1NP, from 4pm to 10pm – arrive and depart when you like. All veteran, vintage and classic (pre 1970 designs) cars, bikes and other road vehicle welcome, especially Alvis cars - Tea, coffee and cakes, BBQ and bar available. Free entry but donations to our Church funds appreciated.

Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th July - POWDERHAM - This is the largest Classic Car Show in the Southwest and is held in the Powderham Castle grounds on the banks of the River Exe. Over the 2 days the Gathering regularly attracts an eclectic mix of over 700 vehicles and Alvis regrettably is one of the very few Classic marques currently without its own stand!! The Show is extremely well supported by the public. This Historic vehicle Gathering is run by Exeter’s Crash Box Club entry cost is a paltry £5 which covers entry + 1 passenger for both days. Saturday 22nd - Pre War Prescott - This Charity non competitive relaxed fundraiser by Morris Minor Register invites even post war cars, provided they have flowing/cycle wings(!) to book self drive climbs up the hill. Wonderful surroundings, great fun, good food, good Alvis Company. Climbing cars are charged for but spectators can park and then ride up with us for free! Detail is on

Saturday 22nd - The Meath Vintage Day, Westbrook Road, Godalming GU7 2QH, by invitation of the Weald Classic Vehicle Club. This is a celebration of Vintage and Classic Cars and Motorcycles where attractions include: a vintage and artisan fair, vintage roundabout, live music from 'Miss Holiday Swing' and a vintage fashion parade. Sunday 6th August
NORTHERN: MG Northern Day, Bewerley Park, Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. HG3 5HQ – The largest MG show in the North. Once again they have extended a warm welcome to the Northern Section of the Alvis Owner Club. Last year they gave us a very prominent display area within the show arena.

NORTHERN: Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, HX7 8EE. Organised by The Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge, the Vintage Weekend is an annual rally for vintage, veteran and classic vehicles held in the West Yorkshire Town of Hebden Bridge, in the heart of the South Pennines.

Friday 11th - Sunday 13th August
SCOTTISH: Scottish Section Weekend - incorporating the Scottish Alvis Day will take place in the Perth area. The hotel is the Dunkeld House Hotel (formerly the Dunkeld Hilton) and the Sunday will be spent at Scone Palace as last year. The weekend will take the usual form of an interesting scenic drive on the Saturday and a Dinner at the hotel, and concours judging and driving tests on the Sunday.

SOUTH WEST: A picnic for AOC members is to be held in the grounds of the National Trust's Great Chalfield Manor near Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire SN12 8NH by kind permission of the donor tenants Robert & Patsy Floyd. This is a romantic moated medieval manor with an Arts & Crafts garden. The house has featured in many films most recently Wolf Hall and Poldark. Drive through the archway and park in the courtyard in front of the house. Bring your picnic to arrive any time after 11.45am. Afternoon tea can be taken in the 1920s garage forecourt of the house still complete with its glazed canopy for washing the motors. Excellent guided tours of the house are available.

Sunday 27th August - Sherborne Rotary Club is once again organizing the ever popular road run and meet in Sherborne School Courts on August Bank Holiday Sunday. The Optional 40 mile Road Run starts at 11am and the route provided circumnavigates a pretty bit of Dorset countryside ideal for pub stops or taking a picnic. It finishes by 2pm back at the Old School Courts where participants can view the most wonderful collection of old cars and chat with a similar collection of (mostly) older drivers. SOUTH WEST: REMEMBERING MAURICE HARVEY. Meet in the square at St. Keverne, ten miles South of Helston, Cornwall, from 10.30am outside The White Hart Inn, TR12 6ND (coffee available). Pay our respects to Alvis’s most famous and successful racing driver, close to the 94th anniversary of his greatest race win, at his graveside, then raise a glass to his memory, with friends, in The White Hart, about 12.30pm, for the usual three hour lunch.

ALL SECTIONS: Mayfair Meeting, at the Coach and Horses, Bruton Street, Mayfair, London, W1J 6PT. The Club’s now traditional International gathering before Christmas for an all section Noggin and Natter. Christmas lights will be on and the new shows will be running so make a weekend of it.

SOUTH EAST: Christmas Dinner at The Gomshall Mill in Gomshall, Surrey, GU5 9LB. By popular demand we are returning for a fine Christmas Dinner at the Mill in Gomshall. An historic location with a working water mill and easy parking, this venue offers a superb atmosphere but more importantly very good food and most certainly good company.
