South West Alvis Weekend - 16/17th July 2022

SWAD2

The weekend began on Saturday morning with Martin Wickham giving us an informative tour of The Tank Museum at Bovingdon.

In the evening Don and Mavis Gray hosted dinner at The Fox Inn Ansty where many of us were staying overnight.

South West Alvis Day was on the Sunday and was held at Athelhampton House and Gardens. The building is Tudor and said to be the most haunted house in the UK with sightings of the ghost of the grey lady. We did see a Grey Lady but this was the Alvis TC/100 of Duncan Smith!

23 Alvis cars attended and ranged in age from the 1923 12/40 of Chris Newby to the 1966 TE21 of Tudor Francis.  Fortunately there was a pleasant breeze and plenty of shade which ameliorated the scorching hot conditions.

Bruce Goodwin came in a TA21 Special constructed by his late father and back on the road this year after a lot of work by Bruce.

Prizes were awarded by an AOC grandee: Derek Bradbury; former SW Chairman, AOC Chairman and AOC President. Derek was at the first gathering of SW members in 1974 at Newton Abbot racecourse; coincidentally that day was also very hot. The day had the usual SW friendliness and a testament to the work of the main organizers, Mark Kirby, Martin Wickham, and Don Gray.

The TA14 of Martin Wickham and the TA21 Special of Bruce Goodwin.

SWAD3

Derek Bradbury ( former club chairman club president and SW chairman) and Don Gray ( current SW chairman) brave the heat to present the awards whilst everyone else stand in the shade.

Wonderful SWAD meeting.

Thanks loads Mark, Martin and Don, for organising such a fabulous day. Lots of friendly and interesting people and cars and the weather was perfect .
Looking forward to meeting everyone again soon. The prizes were totally unexpected and just icing on an already very tasty cake!!
