East Anglia Ramble - Friday 21st May

EA Ramble - 1

A few of the ramblers and the Ivins dog “Toffee”

Several hardy members braved the winter like elements to attend Sue and David Little’s inaugural ramble initiative. We were introduced to the Turf Locks of the river Lark, the sluices serving the mills, the canals navigated by the narrow boats including the large pool area where the narrow boats were turned around. Our hosts presented us with a detailed route map incorporating the history associated with area. The ramble took us on a circular tour out to Barton Mills and back to the Old Railway Station all along the tow paths where, if we were inclined to look up into the driving rain, we could enjoy the early signs of Spring, waterfowl and the lovely exclusive gardens along the river bank.

Our ramble was rewarded by barbecued burgers, sausages and chicken all washed down with a glass of wine kindly provided by Sue and David. Most of us were reluctant to get our Alvis cars wet, but two brave soles ventured out in theirs.

Look out for Sue and David’s next ramble event, which will be a trip to the Snape Maltings on Friday 9th July.
