East Anglia Drive It Day

East Anglia Drive It Dat

In spite of our reluctance to organise a group gathering at Kersey Mill we did have individual attendance from five couples in their cars. We even managed to have a young child, George, attend to enhance his enthusiasm for the Historic Vehicles.

Kersey Mill has become a popular regular meeting point for Drive it Day and with the cancellation of last year’s event this year saw a spectacular turn out of some very interesting historic vehicles including a traction engine, fire engine, Green Goddess Auxiliary fire engine, jeeps, Fergusson tractors, some commercial vehicles and a gathering of old police vehicles. Morgan was well represented along with Minis and a whole host of Classic Cars some of which I remember well in my early days of motoring. It’s strange to see a car you had L-plate lessons in displayed as a Classic. An original series Vauxhall Viva in my case.

Alvis members did manage to find each other and six of us sat around our picnic tables well wrapped up in warm clothing to fend off the cold wind.

Val and I were determined to drive with the hood fully folded.  Our neighbour in his Mercedes 300SL coupe also attended with his hood fully folded.  Thanks are due for the attendees:-
Clare and Brian Symes in their TA21 DHC
Gerald and Anne Becker with George in their TA21 DHC
Dave and Rachel Halsall in their lovely 12/60 tourer
Susi and Hugh Ivins in their TE21
And of course Val and I in our newly restored TA21DHC

Not content with a short journey Val and I motored on, after all it was Dive it Day, (the clue is in the name) to meet up with our other Alvis “D it D” meet at Pakenham Mill where we met up with more Alvis cars and a couple of Rileys.

It was good to give the car some exercise especially with the hood fully folded for the first time on a public highway. The car performed well as one would expect of an Alvis. A real joy to drive.

Kersey Mill

A great time was had by all and we enjoyed a 140 mile ‘round trip’ in Alice and she performed superbly.
