Alvis at the Warren Concours

Thursday, September 27, 2018

This event is now becoming one of the largest Concours events in UK since its inception in 2013, with Super cars, racing cars and a whole host of diverse classics and car clubs in attendance. A highlight being the presence of Nick Mason’s 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO. Despite the earlier weather predictions the residue of US storms had its effect and it rained from 7:30 am and all the way there, for 9:00am arrival, but thankfully heavy enough to wash off most road dirt and it didn’t stop raining until 3:00; then the sun came out for prizegiving. Sadly most Alvis entries did not make it due to the impending rain, but one stalwart, Steve Horne, decided the show must go on, for The Warren’s sake.Warren Concours

You will be pleased to hear that the 1958 TC 108G Graber took first prize in the British late post-war class (F) in The Warren Concours at Woodham Mortimer and became one of three cars selected for the major overall prize – Finally, after a second deliberation by the judges it won best car out of over 120 cars entered; not for the judges the super-bling of over-restoration and over-polishing of components but the rarity and conservation approach to this now 6-owner car with only 100,000 miles on the clock. But then came the bonus, or should I say burden. They asked if the car could be put on display at the RAC Club, Pall Mall early the next day. I had to wash it all down after the torrential rain of sunday morning, even the wheels and the underside (finished in the dark at 19:30 sunday night), up at 3:00 am and I drove down to RAC Club, Pall Mall, Central London on Monday morning for 5 am! It will be on display for the week until next Monday 1st October until 4 am! Right in the centre rotunda/reception hall of the Club; a most prestigious place to display an Alvis and where it will receive much press publicity.

This event has many of the same judges as at Hampton Court Concours, where the Alvis Speed 25 of George Butlin won the RAC Club’s inter-club trophy and was also displayed at RAC.
